Reasonable Suspicion Training for Supervisors
If you conduct reasonable suspicion testing with employees:
- You need to educate supervisors on reasonable suspicion policies and procedures
 - Employees impaired by drugs and alcohol can look like everyone else--even when drunk. They can show NO SYMPTOMS AT ALL.
- You must have reasonable suspicion training that "motivates" supervisors to act on the drug testing policy
- Supervisors must hear and discuss the powerful, manipulative excuses employees will give when they are confronted for reasonable suspicion
- Reasonable Suspicion Training is best when materials and content come from not just supervisor experience, but employee assistance experts who have interviewed
hundreds of drunk and intoxicated employees to learn of their risk patterns. This experience can only be delivered by Certified Employee Assistance Professionals.
Or training has this depth behind it.
WorkExcel PowerPoint, Web Courses, and Action CDs, and Flash Program contain information on: 1) The role of the supervisor, "how to observe behavior" over
60 signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol use, understanding drug tolerance and why an intoxicated employee may appear completely sober, the signs, symptoms,
effects, and workplace hazards of all classes of drugs, all about enabling and stopping common behaviors that encourage enabling like using terms such as "functional
alcoholic", how to approach or speak to employees who are possibly drunk, how to document, how to respond to employees when they come back to work (no
other reasonable suspicion training programs are this comprehensive, but it is critical to thwart relapse!
Our reasonable suspicion training program will leave no stone unturned to maixmize the benefit of your drug and alcohol policy or drug-free workplace program.
Alcohol and drug abuse can happen in any workplace, but untrained supervisors will overlook obvious signs of drunken or toxic behavior unless reasonable suspicion
training includes awareness about possible statements employees will make and how to avoid being "sold" on an excuse for behavior designed to have a supervisor
not insist on a reasonable suspicion test. And what about non-DOT training? Most businesses are not regulated by the U.S. Department of transportation. Schools
for example. There are many alcoholic and drug addicted school teachers. We have treated them. We have also treated restaurant workers, and construction
employees, even secretaries and administrators, and employees in white collar workplaces. Being drunk on the job has no boundaries and a reasonable suspicion
training course must apply to all employees, not just some.
With our Reasonable Suspicion Training Program, you will reproducible fact sheets on the progression of alcohol and drug abuse in the workplace, signs and
symptoms, common excuses drunk or toxic employees make to thwart supervisors, tip sheets and handouts on how to construct documentation, how to deal with an
employee who comes back to work after treatment (remember, not all companies fire workers. By far, most companies encourage workers to get help if they are
identified on the job as under the influence through a reasonable suspicion test.
Our reasonable suspicion training program includes all of the drug and alcohol information you would expect, but also background information specifically designed to
motivate supervisors to not overlook, coverup, deny, or enable employees they know may be under the influence.
Our personal experience includes writing alcohol and drug policies, orienting supervisors on such policies, interviewing employees identified as positive for using
substances on the job, following employees in treatment, motivating them to stay in treatment when they have threatened to leave, helping them stay sober, following
them up after alcohol and drug addiction treatment for several years in many cases, and consulting with supervisors in the workplace who weren't sure if they should
confront an employee for reasonable suspicion of using substances or not.
You will receive our comprehensive trainers guide with alcohol and drug photos and specific information on each substance. And our manual to support your reasonable suspicion training package will also include plenty of information on enabling, coworker interference, cross-tolerance and cross addiction, how alcoholic employees may appear sober, common lies and excuses, myth busters about alcohol and alcoholism, information on the latest drugs of abuse, and a huge list of behaviors that signal "unfit for duty" or "intoxicated".
Our guarantee -- 100% refund at anytime--ever--should you decide the program does not meet your needs and is not the most intense and effective reasonable suspicion training program you have ever seen.

Reasonable Suspicion Training Program Helping Managers Fight Workplace Substance Abuse It's about people anywhere using drugs, or using alcohol in the wrong place at wrong time. It can happen anywhere, and it does.
Transportation workers? Yes, but there are also intoxicated teachers, playground workers, hospital employees, hotel workers, counter clerks, construction workers, maintenance employees, and many others who can be drunk or using drugs on the job.
Most of these employees do not fall under the DOT, and most do not have supervisors trained in reasonable suspicion, even where a drug testing policy exists! Some of these employees present the same risk as an out-of-control fuel truck!
Often these employees get ignored. Supervisors don't know what to do. They remained confused and in denial, hoping the problem goes away. Even DOT training can miss the mark if it only focuses on substance abuse signs and symptoms, and not supervisor behavior, self-awareness, assertiveness, enabling, avoidance, and the misconceptions about addictive disease.
With this continually evolving training program you will have a web course or a PowerPoint Program, Flash button for your web site, or a self-playing CD. You can do live training on your own, or you can let the PowerPoint Show run by itself. We give you lots of purchase options.
Do you need something special or unique? And we can add what you need to this program prior to sending it to you. Would you like alcohol and drug education content added? What about signs and symptoms checklists? What about your own policy popping up as a PDF during the course. Just ask. The additional cost is usually minimal, because we simply "pull" the material from other programs we offer.
Supervisor Education, Awareness, and Motivation to Act This course is about supervisor behavior and improving the odds that you will have a more effective and valuable drug-free workplace program. Without willing supervisors, the rest is simply interesting education and compliance with the law. It may not measure up to protection. You can help add that measure of protection with this program. This training includes:
- Supervisor self-awareness
- Assertiveness in reasonable suspicion process
- Supervisor relationships to employees--work and off the job
- Supervisor denial and avoidance
- Avoiding being manipulated in confrontation
- Defensiveness and denial patterns of users/drinkers
- What to say and how to say it
- Getting past the fear of acting on the policy
- A little about personal awareness and just enough about personal self-diagnosis of one's personal use alcohol
To meet the DOT requirements, use alcohol and drug education with signs, symptoms, effects, and impact on the workplace. Or have us combine this content. You'll save thousands not having to pay per person fees.
The goal of this training program is to help supervisors and team leaders understand the importance of reasonable suspicion testing and preparing them to act on the organization’s drug-testing program when it's needed. It was created to supplement your existing comprehensive drug-free workplace education program. It should include alcohol and drug education. If not, ask us to place that content within this program.

This program begins where most supervisor education and training on reasonable suspicion leave off. It focuses on supervisor behavior and increasing one's willingness to act on the drug-free workplace policy when faced with issues of reasonable suspicion.
The DOT doesn't require motivational and awareness training for supervisors so they will act on reasonable suspicion testing policies. And it is a myth that all it takes is to mandate supervisor compliance. More is needed to reduce cover-up, denial, and avoidance.
Most businesses with reasonable suspicion policies don't fall under the DOT compliance laws. But even those that do miss much of the picture, because training focuses predominantly on rules, regs, signs and symptoms--not supervisor behavior.
So more is needed to protect organizations. Technology workers, office employees, school teachers, building trades people, hospital workers, and many more may place others at risk, but never have a supervisor who's trained in acting on the organization's existing reasonable suspicion drug testing provision within its policy. This training answers the need to complete the training picture, while it improves the ability of the EAP to fill an unmet training need.
