According to a study published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology*,
up to 90% of workplace conversation is gossip.

If this statistic is anywhere close to the mark, it's obvious that employees could use some awareness in the overall effort to intervene with the the issue of gossip that can undermine morale.

No employee considers themselves a busybody, but it is clear that most employees do lean in this direction. So what are we to make of all this? Well, there are a few positive things. Very positive.

According to researchers, gossip is primarily driven by a desire to enforce social norms and ensure that each member of the group pulls his or her own weight.
